A 7 D CORSAIR FIGHTER
Arthur N. Neu Airport, four miles east, one mile south of Carroll The A 7 D
Corsair Fighter was one of the main fighters used in the Vietnam War. This plane
was donated by the Iowa National Guard and dedicated to the Carroll County men
and women who served or died in the Vietnam War. The plane was built for land
and aircraft carrier use with maximum speed of 698 mph.
BREDA MEMORIAL PARK
(BASEBALL STADIUM)
The wonderful former home stadium of the Breda Eagles, semi-pro team of the
1940's and the 1975 St. Bernard High School State Baseball Champions features
one of the few remaining wooden covered grandstands in the Midwest. Built in
1947 (totally restored in 2001) for $15,000, it was described as "one of the
best baseball parks in the state" with grandstand seating 600 and "lighting
facilities equal to any in Iowa". Stop anytime for a step back in time. For more

RAILROAD DEPOT & PARK
407 W 5th St.
The unique 1896 Chicago & Northwestern Railroad depot and American Express &
baggage building designed by Charles Sumner Frost in his classic, Victorian
Romanesque style have been totally renovated. The depot buildings and adjacent,
historic, railroad park have returned to their place as a community green space
and meeting area. It now houses the Carroll Chamber of Commerce.
CNWRR DEPOT
Breda The Chicago Northwestern Railroad Depot was built in 1905.
The building has been restored to its original condition and has been furnished
with some of the original furnishings along with memorabilia of the CNWRR.
DICKSON TIMBER
Two miles east
and four and one-half miles north of Glidden155 acre wooded area with hiking

shelter on site. New to Dickson Timber is horse camping with six electric

in memory of Albert Puck, found of the company in 1926, and Willis Puck who
helped grow the business from 1930-1981. Presented to the Manning Community and

through Carroll County, there are several spots with the original Lincoln
Highway Mile Markers. Locations are: Carroll County Historical Museum, Ralston,
and a farm east of Glidden. Lincoln Highway route through Carroll is marked with

MERCHANT'S PARK (CARROLL BASEBALL STADIUM)
The historic
1949 Merchant's Park built for Carroll's semi-pro team (Merchants) is a unique
site for some of the finest high school, college & semi pro baseball in Iowa. In
addition to regular season games for both local high schools, many tournaments
are played on one of the state's finest fields. Plans are progressing for a full
restoration of this wonderful, fan-friendly ball park. Visitors are always

MERLE HAY GRAVE AND
MEMORIAL
Merle Hay
Memorial Cemetery, 1/2 mile west of Glidden
This historical site is a memorial to Merle Hay. He was the first Iowan, and one
of the first U.S. soldiers, killed in World War I. The memorial is an open
roadside memorial on U.S. Highway 30. Merle Hay is buried at the Merle Hay
Memorial cemetery.
MERLYN
IRLBECK ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LIGHT DISPLAY
1/2 mile south of the German Hausbarn, Manning
This popular attraction is located at the Forgotten Museum on the east edge of
Manning. This is also Merlyn's residence. The display is lit from Nov. 30 until
Jan. 1 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. weekdays and 5:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. on
weekends. It's well worth the drive!
MISSOURI-MISSISSIPPI DRAINAGE DIVIDE

Roadside attraction. From this point east all water runs to the Mississippi
River and from this point west all water runs to the Missouri River. Elevation
1,429 feet.

An authentic one room schoolhouse from the 1880's and log cabin from the 1850's
located in the park for viewing and tours.

RIVERSIDE PARK
Northeast
corner of Coon Rapids
144 acre park with camping, hiking and wildlife viewing. Riverside Campground is
a small camping area located on the east edge of Coon Rapids on Walnut Avenue.
Twelve electric sites are available for RV camping. There is room for tent
camping as well as a new shower house available for campers to use. A 2.5-mile
paved hiking/biking trail adjacent to the Middle Raccoon River features a 100
ft. suspension bridge and is easily accessible from the campground. There is

SAUK RAIL TRAIL
The 33 mile
trail runs from Swan Lake State Park, Carroll, to Black Hawk State Park, Lake
View. The Swan Lake to Maple River section (13 miles) is blacktop; Maple River
to Carnarvon (13 miles) is limestone; Carnarvon to Lake View (7 miles) is
concrete. A $15.00 per year User Fee or $1.00 per day is needed for users 18 and

SOAR's patients are raptors, hawks, owls, eagles, and falcons. Walk through the
new facilities with displays and areas to view the raptors as they mend and
regain strength for release. Get up close to the resident education birds,

SWAN LAKE CONSERVATION
EDUCATION CENTER
This public
facility is a celebration of the natural and cultural resources of Carroll
County and West Central Iowa. The building contains interactive displays and
exhibits as well as large meeting rooms, concessions and a gift shop. For more

SWAN LAKE STATE PARK

510 acre park includes: 110-acre lake, biking and walking trails, cross country
skiing, camping, swimming, concessions, paddleboat & canoe rentals, education

TRINITY
CHURCH (HISTORIC)
Hwy. 141, 1/2 mile east of Manning
The 92-year-old Trinity Lutheran Church was originally located nine miles
southeast of Manning in Lincoln Township. The congregation organized in 1881 by
immigrants from northern Germany. When the church closed in 2006, the structure
was transported, with contents fully intact, over 11 miles of rolling Iowa hills
to the Hausbarn-Heritage Park on the east edge of Manning where it is being
preserved. The historic church is available for non-denominational Christian
events and open to the public for touring. The Heritage Park is open 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. Mon.-Sat.; noon to 4 p.m. Sun. April 1-October 1. Winter tours by

WAR MEMORIAL MONUMENTS
East First
Street South of Grant Road, Carroll
The War Memorial Monuments in Carroll's Cemetery are a memorial to all soldiers.
There is a monument for each war beginning with the Civil War and the latest
monument for Desert Storm. It is one of the few monuments for Desert Storm in
the state of Iowa.
WARREN PONY BRIDGE
VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK
Corner of
Forest & 22nd St., Carroll
The 90 year old Warren pony or low-truss bridge is listed in the National
Register of Historic Places. The bridge was adopted by the Iowa State Highway
Commission (later IDOT) as a prototype for similar bridges in all of Iowa's 99
counties. The bridge was moved to the park by the County. It had been on a
County Road south of the Carroll Airport.
